I am unsure if this makes sense as a focus (in life, not intellectually; there are many things I could spend my time on right?) but I am trying to be a bit more of a YOLOer and just try things.
By DIY PhD/independent PhD/etc all I really mean is focusing on creating research and artefacts out of that research that hopefully add to a corpus of useful knowledge? So lots of people would not use this term as a container but I think it adds a nice romantic gravitas that I like lol.
I think I would like to have some software artefacts as well as a book/collection of essays out of my research, though I’m very unsure what kinds of software would be useful or interesting for my areas of focus (the ecological impacts of the internet, physicality and physical infrastructure of the web, invisibilised or intangiblised technologies, filter bubbles, ecosociopolitical impact of invisibilsed or intangiblised technologies on marginalized peoples, social media, etc).
sidenote that i want to use fewer 10 dollar, multisyllabic words where possible cos I’m always a bit iffy on jargon, it’s just so much easier than rephrasing!
Need to come up with a plan of attack and think about who I want to email lol.
