1. DIY PhD??? I’ve been inspired by nadia asparouhova’s independent research on open source for a while, and her other writing about structuring the work like a PhD and independent research as a public service. This is one of those things that lowkey changed my brain chemistry on reading however many years ago, and I then did nothing. Mostly because I “wasn’t the kind of person” who gets a lucrative sponsorship or research job. But, as nadia says in the last link:

Life is short. Do whatever you can’t stop thinking about. Documenting your findings in public (regardless of outcomes!) is a worthy contribution to society, full stop.

So, I’m not gonna focus on open source, but going deeper on the things that interest me and will expanding here on a lot of stuff I think. I am trying to use google docs less and write here more so we’ll see!

  2. Harpy and PWAs I am trying to build a reminders app for myself that is more remind-y than something like Todoist; I always found that “important, not urgent” sunk to the bottom of the pile. that’s how you end up sleepwalking through life and i refuse to do it lol. I have a lot of manual processes in Capacities (a notetaking app) to keep up with stuff (interstitial journalling, periodic reviews) but it would be cool to build out harpy to be able to work with Capacities! I’m building it as a PWA to see what the technology can do; apparently you can send native notifications so I hope that’s true, we’ll see!

  3. Getting better at writing I really love writing, and accept that “read a lot, write a lot” is the main advice but I feel like I never was really taught much grammar or craft, so would love to fill in the gaps (admittedly I’m more excited about the latter lol).

  4. web wide wander I really want this to happen, it’s a podcast about the places people go online. If I know you AFK or chat to you a lot online this is coming to a conversation near you! If you don’t know me but want to, maybe get in contact if this sounds fun?
